Other causes of esophageal dysphagia include presence of foreign bodies which partially block the throat or esophagus, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), narrowing of the esophageal ring & Eosinophillic esophagitis which relates to food allergies. Radiation therapy which is commonly applied for cancer treatments nowadays can also lead to inflammation & scarring of esophagus. Apart from this scleroderma which develops scar-like tissue can weaken the lower esophageal sphincter and allow acid back up into esophagus so as to cause frequent heartburns.
